Road to the NAIA National Tournament Starts Friday for Tennis Teams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport Tennis teams will officially open postseason play on Friday when they start their road to the NAIA National Tournament here in Grand Rapids. Head coach Patrick Grashorn and his teams will participate in the NAIA Unaffiliated Group along with the four other members of the WHAC and three schools that are independent in tennis: Grand View, Ashford and Saint Ambrose. Play will conclude Saturday at the Farmers Athletic Complex which is the home site of the Panthers.

Women's
 
The No. 17 ranked women's tennis team will open play as the top seed in the Unaffiliated Group for the third straight season and they will face cross-town rival Cornerstone University at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at South Christian Sports Park.
 
The winner of the Davenport-Cornerstone match will face the winner of the No. 4 (Aquinas) vs. No. 5 (Indiana Tech) so the WHAC will be guaranteed a spot in the championship match on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Farmers Athletic Complex.
 
Northwestern Ohio will be the No. 2 seed and will face Grand View (Iowa) while the No. 3 seed is Ashford (Iowa) as they will take on Saint Ambrose (Iowa).
 
Men's
 
The No. 19 ranked men's tennis team will open play as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Cornerstone in the first round which will be played at the Gainey Athletic Complex at 8 a.m. Should DU, win, it would move on to face the winner of No. 2 (UNOH) and No. 7 (Grand View).
 
The top seed in the Unaffiliated Group is Aquinas College who won the WHAC Regular Season title and the Saints will face No. 8 Saint Ambrose (Iowa). The 4/5 matchup will be Indiana Tech (4) vs. Ashford (5).
 
The semifinals will be at South Christian on Friday at 1 p.m. with the title match set for Saturday at 9 a.m. at Farmers Athletic Complex.
