ANGOLA, Ind. – The Davenport baseball team produced 23 hits and 13 RBI as it grabbed an early lead and cruised to its sixth straight win with a 19-3 crushing at Trine Wednesday. Ryan Manning led the pack with four hits and EJ Grochowalski drove in three runs from the cleanup spot. The Panthers, who improve to 25-12 overall, returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play this weekend with a four-game road series at Northwestern Ohio. Both games Saturday and Sunday are slated for 1 p.m. first pitches.

Manning, hitting the second slot, also touched home plate four times to lead that department. Grochowalski, leadoff man Eric Cummings and shortstop Tyler Baratono each tallied three hits at the plate.

Head coach Kevin Tidey formed a committee on the mound against the Thunder (9-14). Left-hander Brendan Bender started off allowing a hit and a walk in three innings of work, Jonathan Cheshire didn't allow a hit or walk but was given extra work in his only outing in the fourth thanks to two errors committed by the defense. Alex Schuiling (2-2) surrendered two hits including a double in his two-inning appearance, Jordan Zylstra got rocked in the eighth inning allowing three runs but managed to get himself out of trouble and Ryan Butzer closed the book shutting out the ninth.

Cummings and Manning wasted no time reaching base with a double and a single, respectively. Grochowalski brought the first run home with a sacrifice fly to left and Jordan Schumann's single to right center brought Manning home. A throwing error allowed Schumann to score the third run from first.

The eventual winning run came in the third inning. Manning led off with a three-bagger to center and Grochowalski tallied his second RBI with a single through the left side.
