WHAC Defense Starts Saturday vs. Dearborn for No. 3 Men’s Soccer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The non-conference slate is in the books and now the No. 3 ranked men's soccer team turns its attention to defending the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season crown when they open league play Saturday at home vs. UM-Dearborn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. against the Wolverines who come in at 0-5-0 overall.

Scouting UM-Dearborn – 0-5-0, 0-0-0 WHAC – Head coach Matt Quirk (First season)
The Wolverines are in just their third season as a varsity program and have yet to find the win column as they come into the week at 0-5-0 overall. Head coach Matt Quirk and his team have not played since Friday, September 20 when they dropped a 4-2 decision to Rochester College. Four different players have posted a single goal for UMD while Andrew Pietrzak is tops in saves with 18 while he has a 3.43 GAA.
 
WHAC Openers
Davenport will bring a 6-2 mark in league openers into their match with the Wolverines on Saturday while they are 7-1 in WHAC home openers. Last season during their perfect 10-0 mark in league play, DU defeated Indiana Tech 5-1 on the road to open conference play while they beat UM-Dearborn 2-0 in their conference home opener.
 
Success on Turf Field
Davenport, with two wins last week against Holy Cross and Huntington, now owns a record of 30-8-2 on the Turf Field.
 
National Rankings
As a team, Davenport boasts five national Top-20 rankings led by Total Goals (34) in which they are No. 3. They also rank No. 4 in Total Assists (25) and No. 19 in Shots on Goal per Game (9.2).
 
Individual Rankings
Dzenan Catic continues to dismantle the DU record books and he currently ranks No. 1 nationally in Goals (14), Points (32) and No. 6 in Game Winning Goals (3). Chad Gordon ranks No. 9 in Assists (5) while TJ Ifaturoti is No. 25 in Goals (6) and No. 26 in Points (14).
