GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Both tennis teams returned to dual match competition on Friday and split with Taylor but they came back on Saturday to post a sweep of NCAA DII Lake Superior State University. The women won their second straight match by a large margin, finishing with a 7-2 decision while the men fought back to post a 5-4 win over the Lakers.

Women – Davenport 7, Lake State 2Â
The women won both of their matches by a combined 15-3 this weekend and they got strong play from the entire lineup as both
Bridget Barrett and
Marcie Kooyers posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. DU also got wins in the singles portion from
Montserrat Elizondo and
Alyssa Fuentes.

In doubles, DU posted three wins as the Panthers 8-0 at No. 3 (
Angelica Woods and Elizondo), 8-4 at No. 2 (Kooyers and Barrett) and 8-1 at No. 1 (Fuentes and
Emily Spiech).

Men – Davenport 5, Lake State 4Â
The Panthers picked up their first dual match win of the season with a strong showing in doubles as they won at No. 1 (
Haja Denise and
Kevin Slagh) and No. 2 (
Matthew Boyle and
Juan-Philip van Antwerpen). DU did have to forfeit No. 3 as well as No. 6 singles because only five players were available.

Needing three more points in singles play, the Panthers got wins from Denise at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2) and
Steven Vink at No. 5 (6-4, 6-0) before setting up the clincher by
Kevin Slagh at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4).

The men's team will take part in the Grand Valley State Invite from October 3-4 while the women will host GVSU in a dual match on October 11.
