Newly No. 2-Ranked Men’s Soccer Hosts Concordia; Travels to Marygrove

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's soccer team just keeps impressing the NAIA.

The Panthers already made program history by vaulting from 21 to three in the first updated NAIA Top 25 last week but the coaches that decide the poll agreed to move Davenport up one more to No. 2 behind Thomas (Ga.).

Davenport will look to stay up there as it resumes Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action this week starting with Concordia coming to the Turf Field Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Panthers will then hit the road for the first time in four matches and play Marygrove in Detroit Saturday at 4 p.m.

Scouting Concordia – 2-5-0, 1-0-0 WHAC (3 Points) – Head Coach Murali Nair
After a 0-5 start to the season, the Cardinals appear to have put themselves on the winning track when they upset #RV Cardinal Stritch 2-1 on Sept. 10. Concordia's newfound confidence was used to down Siena Heights 4-2 in the conference opener last weekend. Although being shut out three times, the Cardinals have scored nine goals in seven matches, with Cory Briggs scoring four of them. Michael Erickson has seen every minute in goal for Concordia, compiling a 1.93 goals-against average and a .725 save percentile.

Scouting Marygrove – 2-7-0, 1-0-0 WHAC (3 Points) – Head Coach Matt Johnson
The Mustangs got off to a rocky start during non-conference play, going 0-7. But after picking up a 3-1 win at Saint Xavier on Sept. 19, that momentum carried into the WHAC opener as Marygrove defeated Lawrence Tech 3-1 last weekend. Nine different Mustangs have compiled 14 goals on the season, with Abdoulie Jallow scoring three to lead the pack. While Marygrove has used three keepers on the year, it has relied on Ryan Plonka, who carries a 2.70 GAA and a .607 save percentage in 734 minutes of work.
