D2 Hockey Returns Home with Home-and-Home Series with Michigan State

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After being on the road for the last seven games, the Davenport D2 hockey team will return home in the first half of the home-and-home series against Michigan State. Davenport is 16-1-1 on the year and is coming into the weekend after sweeping Bowling Green on the road last weekend. The home-and-home series with Michigan State will start on Friday at 3:20 p.m. at Patterson Ice Center, before they conclude the weekend series on the road in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday.

Scouting Michigan State
 
The Spartans sit at 13-9-0-1 on the season as their only shootout loss came on the road against ACHA D1 squad Illinois. Last weekend Michigan State went 1-2-0 in a three game week as they split with Grand Valley State, before losing against Toledo in an outdoor game at Clark Park. The Spartans are two years removed from winning the ACHA D2 National Championship in 2013, and are currently ranked seventh in the Central Region. Trevor McSween is the team's leading scorer with 28 points on the year and 17 goals, while Brent Schwarz has clocked in the most time in net compiling a 3.19 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.
 
The Panthers
 
Davenport is currently ranked 11th in the Central Region and are 16-1-1 on the season. Last weekend the Panthers capped off their seven game road trip with a sweep of Bowling Green State in Ohio last weekend. This season, the Panthers only has come at the hands of Louisville, who is ranked 13th in the Southeast Region, and Davenport tied rival Grand Valley State who is second in the Central Region, while picking up five of the seven first place votes in the region. The Panthers have eight wins this season against team ranked in the top-15 of their regions.
