Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's Division II hockey team picked up their third straight win (4-6) and have outscored their opponents 20-1 during the win streak after a 7-1 revenge win on Friday night against Louisville. The Cardinals defeated the Panthers 6-3 earlier this season in Louisville but it was all Panthers in this one from Patterson Ice Center. The Panthers led 1-0 after one period and saw Louisville tie the game early in the second. From that point on it was DU scoring the game's final six goals with three in the second and third.
Branden Burton scored in the first for Davenport and added an assist in the second.
Donald Sund contributed two goals and one assist. He scored the game-winning goal in the second and later scored the first goal of the third. Zac Bodziak scored twice in the third period to end the game.
Dugan Kelly also had a goal in the contest his first of the season.
Kyle McConnell rounded out the scoring with a goal late in the second. Davenport finished 2-for-3 on the power play and stayed out of the box most of the night as Louisville went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Panthers doubled up the Cardinals, 46-23, in shots on goal.
Christian Thompson finished with 22 saves for DU.
"I am really proud of the guys after tonight's game," said head coach
Chris Green. "We practiced really hard on the ice this week and had film sessions preparing us for this opponent. We executed on these focal points with great success. Tomorrow's game is just as important and we need to have a continuation of what we did tonight. Let's hope momentum can carry over into tomorrow and we can get a sweep."
