MIDLAND, Mich. – After competing at the Grand Rapids City Double on Friday, the Davenport men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday as they faced Northwood (Mich.) in Midland, Mich. The Panthers lost the match 8-1 as
Juan-Philip van Antwerpen and
Matthew Boyle picked up the only win for the Davenport in the third doubles match. The Panthers will now head to Florida for their annual Spring Break trip where they play two top-25 NAIA teams along with two NCAA DII programs.
The Panthers got off a to a slow start as the only Davenport doubles team to win their match was van Antwerpen and Boyle, while Matheus Carvalho and
Sam Rogerson lost their match 8-3 and
Kevin Slagh and
Haja Denise lost 8-0 in doubles number two.
Davenport was unable to rebound in singles competition as Northwood was able to take all six matches in straight sets as the Timberwolves went on to beat the Panthers 8-1. Davenport falls to 2-3 on the season and has dropped their first two dual matches of the spring season.
Davenport will now travel to Orlando, Fla., for their Spring Break trip where they play four matches in seven days. Two matches will against NCAA DII schools, while the next two matches will be up against two NAIA teams ranked in the top-25.
