ORLANDO, Fla. – After dropping their third straight dual match to start the spring on Sunday, the men's tennis team picked up at match against NCAA DII program Chestnut Hill (Pa.) on Monday morning. Davenport was able to snap their skid with an 8-1 win over the Griffins as they move to 3-4 on the season. Davenport will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Capital (Ohio) at Star Island Resort.
Davenport was able to grab an early 2-1 lead out of the gate as they took two of the three doubles matches.
Haja Denise and
Kevin Slagh were able to win at doubles two, 8-4, while
Juan-Philip van Antwerpen and
Matthew Boyle took the third doubles match, 8-4.
The Panthers were able to keep the momentum of winning at doubles two and three, as they swept all six singles matches against the Griffins. Davenport only dropped one set throughout the singles matches, as
Steven Vink lost his opening set, but Vink was able to come back and win the final two sets and singles No. 2. DU was able to grab their first dual match win of the spring as they beat Chestnut Hill 8-1.
Davenport will be back in action on Tuesday as they face NCAA DIII squad Capital University out of Ohio. Davenport and Capital will face each other a Star Island Resort in Orlando, Fla.
