GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The ITA Midwest Regional took place over a three-day period (Sept. 27-29) and was hosted by Grand Valley State at multiple sites in the Grand Rapids area. All 13 student-athletes on the men's tennis roster competed in this event, that incorporates singles and doubles. The Panthers did not have anyone advance to the ITA National this year, but did have some solid performances.
Most notably,
Jaden Bender competed in the Flight B of singles and captured the consolation bracket finals. He lost his first match to put him in the consolation bracket and then proceeded to win five straight matches. In the final, he went toe-to-toe with Isaac Vens of GVSU and came away with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Reuben Bakker competed in the Flight A singles and had early success with two wins to propel him into the round of 16. He would go three sets before falling to Denys Zamariev of GVSU by scores of 1-6, 6-1, 3-6.
Daniel Calver had a similar path into the round of 16 in Flight A singles. Calver needed three sets in each of his first two matches with wins over Oliver Dickason of Rockhurst (6-3, 4-6, 10-6) and AJ Duggan of Northwood (6-2, 1-6, 10-7). He dropped the first set in the round of 16 against Stephan Mach of McKendree (2-6) and then retired.
Adrian Constantin in the Flight B bracket of singles advanced all the way to the quarterfinals. He took down Aimar Oregui of McKendree (6-2, 6-1) and Pedro Diza Camacho of Purdue Northwest (6-1, 6-4) in his first two matches and needed three sets in the round of 16 against Zaid Shelbaya of UIndy (6-4, 3-6, 10-8). In the quarterfinals, Constantin did not have the answers against Axel Le Ho of GVSU (3-6, 2-6).
Kameron Nichols in the Flight D section of singles won a pair of matches to start off against Colton Pazdera of Illinois-Springfield (7-5, 6-2) and Benjamin King of UIndy (6-4, 7-5).
Wesley Troyer won in Flight D got a win in the South Finals over Cayden Stratford of Findlay (6-4, 6-3).
Simone Pacciolla and Bakker teamed up in Flight A doubles and won their first two matches to advance to the quarterfinals. They defeated Joan Dasi/Ross Trias Monells of Walsh (8-4) and Diego Alvarez Gutierrez/Markos Prentits of Maryville (8-1). The tandem of Patricio Sepulveda/Bora Bakici of GVSU ended the day for Pacciolla/Bakker (6-8).
Jan Stolin and Calver won their first doubles match in Flight A over Michel Delaloye/Jack Quilty of Maryville (8-5). They then fell 8-4 against Northwood's Marc Ferrando Farras/Juan Perez Garcia in the round of 16.
