KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Less than 24 hours after winning the Grand Rapids Bracket, Davenport's baseball team found out from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Saturday that the Panthers will make their Avista-NAIA World Series debut against last year's national runner-up and host Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) Friday at 9:30 p.m. EDT.
Â
The NAIA World Series will be held at the Warriors' Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho for 24 seasons, including the last 16.
Â
The World Series is a 10-team, double-elimination tournament with the winner being crowned either May 28 or 29, depending on if the eventual national champion drops one of its earlier round games.
Â
Davenport, the fifth seed in the tournament, is coming off having a 3-1 record to win the program's first NAIA Opening Round bracket at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex this past week. The fourth-seeded Warriors, meanwhile, received a bye to the World Series as the host.
Â
The winner of the matchup will take on either top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist, Concordia (Calif.) or St. Thomas (Fla.) Monday at 9:30 p.m. EDT. The losing team will fall to the loser's bracket and play Saturday at 3 p.m. EDT.
Â
Also in the World Series are Faulkner (Ala.), Tabor (Kan.), Embry-Riddle (Fla.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Vanguard (Calif.).
Â
Stretch Internet, the NAIA's official video-streaming company of 17 select NAIA national championship events, will be broadcasting the first 15 games of the 2015 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series. The game can also be found on the Davenport Athletics Network.
Â
The All-World Series package can be purchased for $20.
