Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Panthers opened up a weekend series with Bowling Green State University Friday night. DU and the Falcons started the game by trading goals as the two teams found themselves in a 2-2 deadlock in the first period.
Bowling Green started the game off with a quick goal recorded at just 1:28 into the game scored by Austin Ahbe on an assist by Devin Spellman. Moments after the BGSU goal DU answered with a pair of goals to take the lead. The first DU goal was scored by Branden Burton on assists by Blake Damerow and Donald Sund. Burton then gave the Panthers the lead on his second of the game on assists by Damerow and Daniel Swink. The first period continued with both teams playing good hockey until 13:03 into the period when Bowling Green tied it up, 2-2, on a shot from the point by Jake Greathouse. Minutes later, DU regainedthe lead with Alexander Stewart snapping one past the BGSU goal tender to record the game-winning goal and give the Panthers the 3-2 edge.
The Panthers would run away with the game, recording five goals in the second and five more goals in the third period to earn a commanding 13-2 win. Chris McRae, Rick Cigile, Sund, and Brandon Bihn each recorded goals for DU as the Panthers improved to 13-7 on the season and extended their winning streak to four games. DU and Bowling Green will finish their weekend series with a game tomorrow (1/16) at 8:20 in the Patterson Ice Arena.
