Panthers Fall Twice While In Ann Arbor Michigan

Davenport loses two games by only two goals to the University of Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Panthers ran into a road block over the weekend, dropping two games to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Both games were only decided by two goals and Davenport out-shot the Wolverines each game.

Game 1 (Friday, December 9th)
Final Score: Davenport 1, Michigan 3
Location: Ann Arbor, Mich.
Records: Davenport 12-4-2, Michigan 5-7-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers had a slow start to this game, being shut out in period one and two. During the first period Davenport had three different power play opportunities, but were un-able to convert. The Panthers held the Wolverines score-less during the opening period as well.
-Michigan was able to score in the tenth minute of the second period.
-A quick goal by Michigan in the first minute of the last period made it tough for the Panthers to come back. Zachary Bodziak started the come back with a goal in the ninth minute, assisted by Jessee Game and Mason Cassell. The Wolverines added a cushion onto their lead by scoring in the 14th minute.
-Bodziak had the only DU goal.
-Game and Cassell each had an assist.
-Four different Panthers spent time in the penalty box for minor penalties.
-Tyler Buchanan played the whole game in goal and saw 33 shots sent at him, he saved 30 of them.


Game 2 (Saturday, December 10th)
Final Score: Davenport 4, Michigan 6
Location: Ann Arbor, Mich.
Records: Davenport 12-5-2, Michigan 6-7-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Both teams improved their offense during the second game of the weekend.
-Michigan got off to a hot start in the first period scoring three goals. Two of the goals were in the opening two minutes of play. Donald Sund countered with a goal in the fourth minute to cut the lead down to one goal, he was assisted by Branden Burton and Jake Otto.
-The Panthers won the second period, scoring three goals and holding the Wolverines to two goals. Chris McRae, Bodziak and Otto all scored during the period. All three of the goals were scored in a four-minute span. The Wolverines were able to sneak goals in before and after DU's three goal streak and Michigan led 5-4 after 40 minutes of hockey.
-The Wolverines amped up their defense in the last period and held Davenport to a score-less 20 minutes. Michigan tacked on one more goal towards the beginning of the period to create a 6-4 lead.
-Sund, McRae, Bodziak and Otto all had one goal.
-Burton and Otto each tallied two assists.
-Davenport received seven different minor penalties throughout the game.
-Devin Rosema and Buchanan both saw ice time during the game in goal. Buchanan had eight saves while Rosema had 14.

 
UP NEXT
Davenport prepares for their last mini-series of 2016. The panthers play two games against Grand Valley State University on Friday and Saturday this week. Friday's game will be at Grand Valley with a 9:30 p.m. start time and Saturday's game will be hosted at Patterson with a 7:20 p.m. start time. The Lakers are currently ranked third in the Central Region right behind the Panthers who are still second.
