Panthers Lose Close Game On The Road Against Grand Valley 5-3

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – A strong first period by the Lakers was too much for the Panthers to over come during their 5-3 loss at Grand Valley State University last night. Davenport was consistent throughout the night, scoring one goal during each period. The Lakers are ranked second in the Central Region and the Panthers are third. The top ranked teams will battle again tonight, but this time on the Panthers home ice of Patterson Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Lakers were super aggressive during the first period, scoring four goals against the Panthers. Grand Valley created a 3-0 lead before Davenport was able to respond, Mason Cassell netted a goal during the 12th minute of play. The Lakers added one more goal to lead 4-1 after 20 minutes.
-Davenport took control during the second period, calming the Lakers storm and holding them score less. Jake Otto helped chip away at the lead with a goal in the 16th minute, he was assisted by Donald Sund. Grand Valley led 4-2 after two periods.
-Grand Valley snuck in a goal during the third period to take a 5-2 lead and end the Panthers momentum. Davenport was able to score one more goal, by Kyle McConnell, to bring the Panthers within two goals. Time would be on the Lakers side as the game ended 5-3 in favor of Grand Valley.
-Cassell, Otto and McConnell all scored during the game.
-Sund led with two assists.
-Tyler Buchanan played all 60 minutes in goal and had 37 saves.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will host Grand Valley tonight at the Patterson Ice Arena and try to even up the weekend series 1-1. The game is set to start at 7:20 p.m. tonight.
