CANTON, Mich. - The men's and women's bowling teams competed on Saturday (Feb. 6) at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Concordia University. The format for the championship was a best-of-five double-elimination match play.
The women's team faced top-seeded Lawrence Tech in the first match and dropped a 3-0 decision by scores of 193-144, 162-122 and 201-160. The second match was a thriller as the Panthers took Aquinas to five games before dropping a 3-2 decision. Aquinas took game one 170-156 but the Panthers won the next two by scores of 174-164 and 152-140. The Saints rallied for a 190-186, 172-148 finish eliminating DU from the championship.
The men's team were swept 3-0 in their first match against Northwestern Ohio by scores of 201-180, 182-149 and 211-148. The team regrouped with a 3-1 win in their second match against Lawrence Tech. DU won the first game 265-192 and followed with a 195-172 win. LTU kept the match alive with a 222-163 win in the third game. Davenport wrapped it up with a narrow 187-186 win in the fourth game.
DU continued to advance with a 3-2 win over Siena Heights to reach the final four. The Panthers trailed 2-0 but came all the way back with 203-191, 205-171 and 211-172 games. Northwestern Ohio was again waiting for the Panthers and beat them 3-0 by scores of 183-160, 166-160 and 267-218 to eliminate them from the championship.
