WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Davenport baseball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday at Keiser to end their spring trip with an overall record of 11-7. The Seahawks improved to 15-5 with the victories.
Davenport had a brief 1-0 lead through three innings in game one as
Travis Bolin smacked his sixth home run of the season in the first inning. The Panthers could not avoid the big inning by Keiser as they scored eight times in the bottom of the fourth and won 8-1. Keivan Berges hit a two-run homer to give the Seahawks a 2-1 lead. Jack Curtis and Miguel Casanueva each drew a bases-loaded walk to increase the lead to 4-1.
Caleb Leach entered the game on the mound replacing
Bryan Saucedo and Gabby Mundo was hit by a pitch to score another run. Dylan Dore drew the third bases-loaded walk of the inning for a 6-1 lead. Berges hit a sacrifice fly for the seventh run and Brad Myott had a RBI single to end the scoring.
Davenport had just three hits in game one as
Matt Priebe went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. Saucedo slipped to 2-2 this season allowing seven runs and five hits in three-plus innings.
Michael Meade and
Nick Jansen each threw one inning of scoreless relief. Kyle Keatts threw a complete game for Keiser and walked none with four strikeouts.
Davenport took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second in game two.
Brian Sobieski hit a sacrifice fly and J.P. North followed with a RBI single. Carlos Lopez hit a solo homer for Keiser in the bottom of the second cutting the lead in half.
Travis Bolin singled home a run in the third for a 3-1 lead. Keiser picked up two unearned runs in the third to tie the game at 3-3.
Keiser again had a big inning with six runs in the fourth to pull ahead 9-3. They also added two more runs in the fifth for an 11-3 win. Myott had a bases-clearing double in the fourth and Curtis also doubled home a run. Dore and Myott also had sacrifice flies in the fifth.
Priebe had the only extra-base hit in game two for the Panthers.
Dominic Albanese went 2-for-4 and was the only multi-hit batter for DU.
Tyler Bradner (1-3) took the loss but didn't much help from his defense. Davenport made six errors in game two and Bradner allowed only two earned runs (nine total) in 3.2 innings of work. Weston Wuthrich went the distance for Keiser allowing three runs with four strikeouts.
