INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Davenport men's golf team tied for fifth with 594 strokes at the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcat Cup on Tuesday. The event was originally a two-day outing but was changed into a 36-hole, one-day event after the course was unplayable on Monday.
The Panthers were six strokes out of first place in a tight field. Northwestern Ohio won the event with a 588 followed by Taylor University (591) and University of the Cumberlands (591). Bellevue (NE) placed fourth at 592 and Mt. Vernon Nazarene and DU tied at 594.
Davenport shot 299 in the opening 18 holes in the morning and improved four strokes in the afternoon 18 holes.
Jorge Benitez once again made a run at medalist honors tying for second just two strokes behind Charlie Phillips of Mt. Vernon Nazarene. Benitez shot three-under par 141 (71-70) on the par 72, 6,994-yard course at Brickyard Crossing.
Mitchell Wandell shot 148 (+4) and tied for 17th with three other golfers.
Mitchell Garrison tied for 21st with a five-over par 149 (72-77).
Michael Cooper tied for 55th with a score of 156.
Austin Sereno carded a 159 as an individual.
Josh Switzer played to a 171.
