Panthers Earn Season Sweep of Cornerstone

DU won all four games this season and are 13-1 all-time against CU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The season sweep of Cornerstone was completed by Davenport's baseball team on Wednesday with scores of 10-3 and 9-3 at DeWitt Field. The Panthers are now 13-1 all-time against Cornerstone and vaulted over the 30-win plateau this season at 31-9. DU also moved their WHAC record to 18-2 and will travel to Concordia on Saturday and Sunday for four games.

Corey Sessions got the start in game one and went 4.2 innings allowing five hits and two earned runs. Sessions struck out five Golden Eagles and threw 72 pitches. Caleb Leach entered with two outs in the fifth and Davenport leading 4-3. He weathered the storm tossing 2.1 innings and allowing just one hit with two strikeouts to get the win (3-0). Alex Schuiling threw the final two innings and allowed one walk with three strikeouts.

The Panthers broke open the game with four runs in the sixth inning. Travis Bolin set the new single-season home run record (13) with a three-run shot to left and another run scored on a wild pitch. Brandon Cable finished with two RBI. Jeremy Vasquez drove in three runs from the nine-spot going 2-for-4. Connor Seymour scored twice and hit his second double of the season.

Davenport jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and increased their lead to 9-0 after three more runs in the sixth. Cornerstone scored twice in the sixth and one more in the seventh. DU had 14 hits in game two against Brandon Willard and Jake Ellis. Vasquez continued his hot bat with two doubles going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Cable, Matt Priebe and Nolan Page also had a double in the contest. Bolin set the single-season triple record with his ninth while scoring a run and collecting one RBI.

Michael Meade improved to 2-0 going 5.2 innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out six tossing 98 pitches. Schuiling pitched his second straight game going 1.1 innings to close it out. Dre Celestijn got the start in right field going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Cable drove in three runs and scored once. Page went 2-for-2 with a run. Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
