GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport faced off against one of the top competitors in division two of the ACHA in Northern Michigan. The Wildcats currently are ranked number one in the west region of division two and held a record of 12-2-2 coming into the series. The Panthers protected home ice with a 6-2 win on Friday, but fell to the Wildcats 2-4 on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED-Davenport nailed the first goal of the game in the opening period by senior
Lexie Boydston, assisted by
Laken Kunz and
Patsy Howe.
Karley Ferguson was able to block all of the Wildcats shots in the period.
-The second period saw each team score one goal to create a one goal game heading into the final period.
Megan Martin scored for DU in just the third minute of the period.
-Davenport exploded in the final period for four goals, two of those provided by
Adrienne Porcalla. The Panthers were able to cash in two of those goals in the last two minutes of the period.
-Porcalla had two goals to lead DU.
-Three different players had two assists, Kunz, Howe and
Emily Ellis.
-Ferguson played all 60 minutes and recorded a game high 44 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED-After the first game the Wildcats made some adjustments on the defensive side of the ice. Davenport was held score less for the first and third period while Northern Michigan was able to score during all three periods.
-Early in the second period Davenport took a 2-1 lead after
Molly Byrum scored just one minute into the period and
Zoie Amatore scored a couple minutes later. These were the only goals of the game for DU. The Wildcats conjured up two goals within 15 seconds towards the end of the period to take a 3-2 lead into the third.
-In the first game Davenport had 41 shots on goal, during the second game they were held to only 24 shots on goal.
-Byrum and Amatore each scored a goal.
-Ellis and Howe each assisted on a goal.
-
Dawn Salo played the whole game in net and recorded 24 saves.
UP NEXTThe Panthers have two more regular season games before playoffs start in a couple weeks. Davenport will take on Grand Valley State University next week Friday and Saturday.
