BAY CITY, Mich. – The 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Soccer awards have been announced after voting conducted by the league's coaches. The awards were presented at a banquet on the campus of Northwood University prior to the start of the 2017 GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament semifinals on Thursday night.

Junior forward Brogan Shrimpton (Benoni, South Africa) has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC. Shrimpton had a breakthrough season for the Panthers in 2017 leading the GLIAC with 17 goals. He nearly doubled his goal output from his sophomore season (9) and filled in the scoring gap left by departing NAIA All-Americans in TJ Ifaturoti and Jake Love from last season. Shrimpton got off to a red-hot start scoring a goal in the team's first five matches. He scored 12 goals during that stretch including hat tricks against Missouri-St. Louis and Ashland. He scored four goals against the Eagles which was one shy of the school record. He was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for three straight weeks to start the season.

"I'm so excited and honored for receiving these awards tonight," Shrimpton said. "None of this would have been possible without my teammates, the coaching staff and Davenport. It's such a great program to be a part of and I'm thrilled with the effort the boys have put in this season."

Junior defender Stephen Carroll (Cork, Ireland) has been named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC. He was a steady force on the back line for the Panthers in 2017. He logged the fourth-most minutes on the team (1,540) and has not missed a start in his two years with the program. Carroll has also shown his ability to provide offense and ranks tied for second on the team with three goals. He helped anchor a defense which ranks third in the GLIAC allowing 1.19 goals per game and posted four shutouts this season. Carroll was named First Team All-WHAC as a sophomore and was NAIA Honorable Mention All-American at Martin Methodist as a freshman.

"I couldn't be happier with receiving First Team All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year in our first year in the GLIAC," Carroll commented. "I've never been awarded defensive player of the year, so that was a surprise to me. It's been a great year for me and the lads. Hopefully we can push on now from this and win the tournament."

Joining the previous listed gentlemen are First Team selections in senior midfielder Cam Cavanagh (Durban, South Africa); Second Team selections in freshman midfielder Daire O'Riordan (Cork, Ireland) and senior goalkeeper Aaron Orban (Suttons Bay, Mich.); and Honorable Mention choice junior defender Carson Brinks (Hudsonville, Mich.).

Cavanagh has been a four-year starter for the Panthers and ranks second all-time with 83 starts. He ranks sixth all-time with 15 assists and this season has two goals and two assists with one game-winning goal. He was named First Team All-WHAC over the past two seasons.

O'Riordan was sensational in his first year with the program. He teamed up with Cavanagh to form one of the top midfield duos in the conference. O'Riordan scored two goals and led the team with six assists. He tied for the conference lead in assists this season. O'Riordan also ranked eighth in shots (30) and had a game-winning goal against Northwood on Oct. 15 in double overtime.

Orban has had a remarkable career with the Panthers as a four-year starter in goal. He holds the school record with 59 wins, 235 saves and a 0.89 goals-against average. He has played in 81 career matches and started 76 times. This season, he owns a 10-6-1 record in goal with four shutouts, 46 saves and a 1.19 goals-against average. He ranks third in minutes (1,587) and goals-against average while also ranking fifth in saves and third in wins.

Brinks has been a three-year standout on defense playing in 62 games. He has four assists this season, which ranks fifth in the GLIAC. He has started in all 17 matches this season with 20 shots and nine shots on goal.
