Davis Named GLIAC Freshman of the Year; Four Panthers Earn All-GLIAC Honors

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Four members of the Davenport University men's soccer team have earned All-GLIAC recognition for the 2025 season, highlighted by Charlie Davis, who was named the 2025 GLIAC Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-GLIAC honors. Joining Davis on the list are Max Wilhelm (Second Team At-Large), Beau Hudd (Second Team Goalkeeper), and Drew Matyunas (Honorable Mention).

Charlie Davis, a true freshman midfielder from London, U.K., has been a driving force behind Davenport's attack in his debut season. One of four Panthers to start and play in every match, Davis leads the team in goals (5), points (16), assists (6), shots (52), shots on goal (26), and game-winning goals (3)—numbers that have helped power the Panthers' postseason push.

Within the conference, Davis ranks first in assists, third in both shots and shots on goal, fourth in game-winning goals, sixth in points, and seventh in goals. He has recorded five or more shots in eight matches, including season highs of six shots on two occasions.

Davis netted his first collegiate goal in the season opener on Sept. 4, helping DU secure its first opening-day victory since 2002. His breakout performance came in a 3–1 win over Northern Michigan, where he tallied two goals and one assist for a season-high five points. Following that weekend, he was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring directly off a corner kick—an Olimpico. Over that two-game stretch, he totaled three goals, one assist, seven points, and 10 shots with five on target.

Max Wilhelm, a senior defender from Suess, Germany, earned All-GLIAC Second Team At-Large honors. One of four Panthers to start every match this season, Wilhelm provided steady leadership and composure along the back line. He capped his collegiate career in style, scoring his first goal of the year in a crucial postseason match against Parkside, where he also posted season highs in points (2), shots (7), and shots on goal (5)—a fitting finish to his time in the Panther red, white, and black.

Beau Hudd, a sophomore goalkeeper from London, U.K., was selected to the All-GLIAC Second Team after another standout season in goal. Appearing and starting in 16 matches, Hudd faced 266 shots, making 73 saves while allowing just 19 goals across 1,430 minutes of play. He recorded a career-high 13 saves against Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 29, a match in which he faced a career-best 38 shots. Hudd posted a 1.20 goals-against average and notched three complete-game shutouts this season.

Drew Matyunas, a junior forward from Richmond, Mich., received All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors. Appearing in 17 matches with 15 starts, Matyunas scored his first goal of the season against Northwood on Sept. 11 and added one assist to finish with three total points. Across 1,248 minutes, he recorded 30 shots, including 20 on goal, and brought consistent energy and creativity to the Panthers' attacking front.

Wilhelm, the lone senior among the four, concludes an accomplished career with the Panthers, while Davis, Hudd, and Matyunas will look to build on their success heading into the 2026 season.
