Davenport falls twice against Aurora University at home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers hosted Aurora University for a weekend mini-series and lost two high scoring battles. Davenport scored seven goals over the two games, but the Spartans outscored the Panthers in both game. In game two DU scored five goals, including two in the opening period to give them a one-goal lead. The Panthers defense struggled against the Aurora offense, giving up an average of eight goals per game over the weekend.
 
Game 1 (Friday, December 1)
Final Score: Davenport 2, Aurora University 7
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 3-12, Aurora 16-0

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Aurora scored the initial goal of the game in the first period. The Spartans scored twice in the period, both by the same player and held a two-goal lead after 20 minutes of play.
-In the second period Aurora scored another two goals before DU got on the board. With only 21 seconds left in the period Evan Carroll netted a goal to cut the lead down to three goals, assisted by Marc Rotondo and Trevor Murray.
-During the final period the Spartans added three more goals and Davenport scored their second goal of the game. Rotondo scored late in the period, assisted by Nicholas Sarjeant and Murray. Davenport was unable to string enough goals together to contest with Aurora.
-Both Rotondo and Carroll scored one goal each.
-Murray assisted on both goals.
-Devin Rosema played all 60 minutes in net and had 31 saves.

 
Game 2 (Saturday, December 2)
Final Score: Davenport 5, Aurora University 9
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 3-13, Aurora 17-0

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport came out aggressive in the first period and outscored Aurora 2-1. Connor Seymour scored the first goal of the game on an unassisted effort with 16:55 left in the period. A few minutes later Kyle McConnell scored to give Davenport a two goal lead, assisted by Rotondo and Seymour. Aurora snuck in a late goal to cut DU's lead down to one goal.
-The Spartans took over the game in the second period, scoring five goals. Davenport found themselves down three goals after the conclusion of this period.
-In the final period Carroll scored one goal, but three more Aurora goals gave the Spartans a 9-5 win over Davenport.
-Jessee Game led the scoring charge for DU with two goals.
-Six different players recorded one assist, Rotondo, Seymour, Carroll, Chris McRae, Jordan Luciw and Anthony Bagnasco.
 
UP NEXT
Davenport is on the road for their next three games. This week the team will be in Chicago, Illinois taking on Robert Morris University in a mini-series. Friday's game will be played at 10 pm ET (9 pm CT) and Saturday's is scheduled for 9:30 pm ET (8:30 pm CT).
