LIMA, Ohio - The WHAC Tournament title run for the Davenport baseball team ended on Tuesday afternoon (May 9) with a 4-2 loss against Northwestern Ohio. The Panthers suffered both losses in the tournament to the hands of the Racers who beat the Panthers all five times during this season including the regular season.
The Panthers looked poised to make some noise as
Austin Petravicius led off the game with a home run, his first of the season. After that however it took Davenport until the eighth inning to score again after they were trailing 4-1. UNOH scored once in the first and twice in the second to take a 3-1 lead. The Racers also scored once in the fourth as all four runs came against starter
Brady VanSloten. He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed four hits with three walks.
Caleb Leach kept the team in the game in relief going the final 4.1 innings and allowing no runs with five hits and one walk. Davenport did not strike out a single batter for the first time in a game this season (56 games).
Steven Amos got the win in relief (3-0) as the second pitcher for UNOH. He replaced Brett McEldowney who threw the first three innings and allowed a run. Amos tossed 3.2 innings and allowed four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Ross Cervantes pitched the final inning for the Racers getting his first save in a 1-2-3 inning.
Each team had nine hits in the contest as DayFran Ortiz did the big damage for UNOH going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a two-run homer which proved to be the go-ahead hit. Petravicius went 2-for-4 with both RBI for the Panthers.
Jake Bozzo went 2-for-3 with a walk.
