Davenport drops two games against 10th ranked University of Michigan

The Panthers took on the Wolverines, from the University of Michigan, and fell in both games. During the second game Davenport was neck and neck with the Wolverines for the whole time. The Panthers had the lead 2-1 heading into the final period of the second game, and then gave up two late goals to Michigan.
 
Game 1 (Saturday, February 3)
Final Score: Davenport 1, University of Michigan 5
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Wolverines created an early lead in the opening period. Michigan scored the first two goals of the game, first one was in the sixth minute and the second was in the 17th minute.
-Davenport buckled down on defense and held the Wolverines scoreless in period number two.
-The Panthers put their first goal of the game in during the final period of play. Jaiden Forrest scored 5:04 into the period, assisted by Courtney Mulligan and Amanda Ballestero. The goal by Forrest brought the Panthers to within one of Michigan. The Wolverines ended the period scoring three unanswered goals.
-Forrest scored the lone DU goal.
-Mulligan and Ballestero each recorded one assist.
-Julia Gaynor spent all 60 minutes in net and had 38 saves.
 
Game 2 (Sunday, February 4)
Final Score: Davenport 2, University of Michigan 3
Location: Ann Arbor, Mich.
Records: Davenport 5-17, Michigan 11-10-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Again, the Wolverines scored the initial goal of the game. However, the Panthers responded this game with two goals of their own in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. Lexie Boydston scored the first goal in the 14th minute and Mulligan scored in the 18th minute. Davenport held a 2-1 lead throughout the second period and into the third.
-In the final period the Wolverines scored two consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead. The third goal scored by Michigan was with only 14 seconds left in regulation. Davenport was unable to tie the game with such little time left on the clock.
-Both Boydston and Mulligan each scored one goal.
-Laken Kunz assisted on both goals.
-Gaynor did a solid job in the net, saving 28 of the 31 shots she faced.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers play a mini-series against Grand Valley State next weekend.
