GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport hosted their second NAIA team of the weekend and won their third straight match. The Panthers were originally scheduled to play at Indiana Tech, but due to lack of available facilities, the Warriors made the trip to Grand Rapids. Three Panthers won both their singles and doubles matches,
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen,
Marc Lerch, and
Jonathan Bulmer.
The doubles matches took place first and DU went 2-1 in them. Lerch and Antwerpen won 8-2 in first doubles.
Matthew McClurg and
Remy Johansen dropped a tight match in second doubles 8-6. In third doubles, Bulmer and
Max Hartman won 8-4 to give DU their second point in the match.
Davenport swept the singles matches and earned six points. Johansen competed in first singles and won 6-0 and 6-3. In second singles Antwerpen won 6-2 and 6-4, while Lerch defeated Alvaro Gomez 6-4 and 6-2 in third singles. McClurg and Bulmer lost only a combined five games during their wins in fourth and fifth singles. In sixth singles,
Michael Digby won 6-2 and 7-5.
The next time Davenport will be in action is down in Orlando, Florida. The team will compete against Rose-Hulman, Concordia College (Minn.), Mount St. Mary College, and the University of Mobile.
