ORLANDO, Fla. – Davenport is down in Florida for their annual spring break trip and opened with a match at the United States Tennis Association against Rose-Hulman. The Engineers held a 11-5 record coming in to the match. The Panthers swept all matches against Rose-Hulman, with the women winning 6-3 and men winning 7-2.
The double matches took place first and DU went 2-1.
Steph Ritson and
Adeline Nelson won 8-0 in the first doubles.
Sophie Gossett and Bridgett Barrett also won their match with an 8-3 victory. The two successes would give Davenport the lead 2-1 going into singles play.
In singles, Davenport won all four matches in which they partook in. Ritson competed in first singles and won 6-2, 6-1. In second singles Nelson won 6-1, 6-3, while Barrett defeated Bella Evans 6-2, 6-2 in third singles. In fourth singles, Gossett won 6-0, 6-0.
Ritson, Nelson, Barrett, and Gossett all won their singles and doubles matches. The four only lost a combined 14 games between singles and doubles.
The Panthers continued their winning ways as they picked up their second straight win during their spring trip on Tuesday with a 6-3 win over NCAA Division III Concordia College. The Cobbers did not have an answer for the Panthers as they improved to 2-0 on the trip. Davenport swept all matches against Concordia College they had athletes in.
In doubles the combo of
Adeline Nelson and
Steph Ritson won 8-2 in the first doubles slot. Also winning 8-5 was
Sophie Gossett and Bridgett Barrett in the second doubles spot. Concordia College won the third doubles match by default.
Davenport was dominant in singles, winning four of the six matches. Ritson won in the first singles spot 6-0 and 6-1. Nelson won against Kendra Storch in the second doubles spot 6-3 and 6-1. In the third singles slot Terrin Everse won 6-0 and 6-0. This was the first time on the court for Everse on the trip and she did show any sign of fatigue as she had the largest margin of victory in all the single matches. Gossett continued her winning ways by taking the fourth singles 6-2, 6-0. Davenport defaulted in the last two singles spots.
Nelson, Ritson, Barrett, and Gossett all won in singles and doubles for the second straight match.

Davenport will be in action again tomorrow, as the Panthers will take on Mount St. Mary's (Md.) at 8:00 a.m.
