Seven Panthers score in 8-1 win over Purdue Northwest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers continue their hot start in GLIAC play with an 8-1 decision over Purdue Northwest. This is the largest margin of victory for Davenport against a GLIAC opponent so far this season and their third straight conference win. Seven different players contributed points in today's match. The Panthers currently rank tied for first in the league with Ferris State, who also boast an undefeated 3-0 record in GLIAC play.

Doubles Competition
Davenport swept the doubles matches 3-0. The first match to finish was Remy Johansen and Max Hartman in three doubles, who swept their opponents 8-0. Not far behind them was Marc Lerch and Juan-Louis van Antwerpen, winning 8-1 in the first doubles slot. Matthew McClurg and Jonathan Bulmer wrapped up their match last, winning 8-3 in two doubles.
 
Singles Competition
The Panthers almost earned their first complete sweep of a GLIAC foe, but Antwerpen fell in second singles to Mortiz Gisy. Bulmer earned the first point in singles for Davenport, winning 6-2 in both sets in fourth singles. The match-winning point was earned by McClurg in third singles, who won 6-3 and 6-0. Lerch had a tough match in the first singles spot. He found himself down one set and then came back to win the second set and a super tiebreaker in the third 10-5. Michael Digby and Johansen only lost a combined three sets in their two wins. Johansen won 6-2 and 6-1 in fifth singles, while Digby went a perfect 6-0 and 6-0 in sixth singles.

Up Next
The Panthers go on the road for their next three GLIAC matches. Davenport travels to Allendale, Mich. on Wednesday, April 4 to take on the Lakers of Grand Valley State. The Lakers sit one game behind Davenport in the GLIAC standings.
