HOW IT HAPPENED
-This contest hinged upon the third period where the Panthers turned a 3-1 game after two periods into an 8-2 win over the Saints on their home ice. The Panther power play was potent in this one going 3-for-5 and they also killed off 3-of-4 penalties. The Saints pressured goaltender Drake Deering all night but he was up to the task with 41 saves.
-Aquinas scored the only goal of the first period on the power play as Mike Curran scored at 8:35 with an assist from Nicholas Correia.
-Connor Seymour started the second period scoring at 30 seconds on the man advantage with assists from Trevor Murray and Josh Uzzell. Jessee Game gave DU a 2-1 lead at 13:42 from Jeff Rahilly and Clint Loney. DU went ahead 3-1 at 19:35 as Jacob Demeter scored from Justin Vantine. The spread out point scoring was key in the second period.
-The Panthers put it away in the third period as Evan Carroll and Loney each scored twice. Rahilly had the first goal of the final period at 5:00 from Loney and Uzzell. Loney added a power play goal just 1:41 later from Seymour and Game for a 4-2 lead. The tide really turned midway through the period when Carroll scored back-to-back short-handed goals at 9:20 and 10:55. Loney ended the scoring at 12:10 on the power play from Uzzell and Murray.
-Loney finished with two goals and two assists. Murray assisted on four goals. Uzzell finished with three assists.
