GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's hockey team looked to bounce back Saturday afternoon after a loss in their first conference game of the season the night before. Their opponents were the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines who, in the program's first season, were dominating in D2, starting the season 7-0.
The Wolverines and Panthers went back-and-forth for the majority of the contest, but UM-Dearborn were able to convert on more of their scoring chances, keeping their undefeated season in tack.

WOLVERINES ON THE ATTACK
The game started with DU getting a couple of good chances on UM-Dearborn's Tara Peladeau, who was making her first start of her collegiate career. The Wolverine freshman was solid in goal, stopping all nine shots she faced in the opening 20 minutes.
The Wolverines were the ones with the high-quality scoring chances, with 16 shots in total in the first, keeping
Julia Gaynor active in net. They were able to break through as Claudia Maguire scored her 11
th goal of the season just before the halfway mark of the period.
QUICK REPLY
The 1-0 lead the Wolverines carried into the second period did not last long. 90 seconds into the period,
Courtney Mulligan drove the puck towards the Wolverine net, and fed a perfect pass to
Tori Dubuc who buried her third of the season to tie the game.
BACK IN THE LEAD
The game was not tied for long, as the Wolverines went on the power play just a couple minutes into the period. Seconds into the man advantage, Izzy Welke fired a shot through a screen in front of Gaynor to put the Wolverines back out in front. 33 seconds later, Kaylee Keledjian scored her eighth goal of the season on a perfect shot underneath the crossbar to give the Wolverines a two-goal lead.
Four minutes later, it would Brooke Spiegel sliding a shot by Gaynor to make it a 4-1 lead. Following the goal, Gaynor was replaced by
Dayna Templeton, who held off the Wolverines for the remainder of the period, and ended up making 21 saves in her relief appearance.
KEEPING IT CLOSE
Even though they were trailing by three, the Panthers would refuse to give up. They had a couple of good chances, and finally broke through with
Amanda Ballestero's first of the season a little passed the halfway mark of the period.
The Wolverines would not allow Davenport any more chances in the game, and Welke's second goal of the game put DU well out of reach, with the Wolverines winning by a final score of 5-2.
WHO'S NEXT?
The Panthers go back into CCWHA play as they take on the Michigan State Spartans, currently the #5 team in the country. MSU is 7-1, and have already defeated the Panthers this season with a win this past Sunday.
