ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team traveled to Grand Valley State as the host of the ITA Midwest Regional championships over the weekend.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen competed in the main draw of singles and was matched up with David Ambrozic of Lewis in the first round. Ambrozic won the match 6-4, 6-4 sending van Antwerpen into the consolation draw. He then faced Joseph Gilman of Lake Superior State who beat Juan-Louis by scores of 6-4, 6-4.Â
Remy Johansen also took part in the main draw for singles and squared off with Max Rink of Wayne State in the opening match. Rink won the match 6-2, 6-4 sending Johansen into the consolation draw. Remy then won his first match in the consolation draw over Louis Glaves of Maryville by scores of 6-1, 7-6 (8-6). Then rain halted the completion of the consolation draw.
Jonathan Bulmer was the last Panther in the main draw for singles and faced 13th-seed Stuart Brdicka of Ashland in his first match. Brdicka won 6-3, 6-3 and then fell in the consolation draw 6-3, 6-1 against Levent Evyapan of Purdue Northwest.

Daniil Khitrou and
Matt Leatherman each took part in the "B" singles draw. Keas fell 6-2, 6-1 against 6th-seed Michael Szabo of Hillsdale in his first match. Khitrou battled Andrew Codita of Findlay and won in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 10-6). He continued his winning ways in the next round with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 win over Parker Collignan of Southern Indiana. The round of 16 matchup against Emil Berglund of Bellarmine was another nail-biter as Berglund outlasted Khitrou 6-7, 6-1, 10-4.
Leatherman fell 6-1, 6-1 to 8th-seeded Karl Heinrichs of Missouri-St. Louis and then fell to Siddhesh Mahadeshwar of Michigan Tech in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 10-7). Johansen and Khitrou teamed up in doubles for the "B" draw and dropped an 8-4 decision against the 5th-seeded duo of Ben Kasprzak and Milan Kovacs of UMSL.
Leatherman and Keas also in the "B" doubles draw competed against Alex Lescoulie and Ignacio Morera-Lucas of Grand Valley State and lost 8-1. Bulmer and van Antwerpen in the main draw squared off with Martin Matov and Jack Dausman of GVSU and lost 8-4.
