KENTWOOD, Mich. – After a very convincing win on Friday night, the D2 hockey team looked to wrap up their regular season on a high note against the Louisville Cardinals.

Just like the night before, Davenport controlled the play from the drop of the puck. The Panthers scored six goals in the opening 20 minutes, followed by another six in the second period on their way to completing the weekend sweep.

Justin Vantine scored a pair of goals for the Panthers, with Harry Newton scoring a goal and two assists. Tyler Majewski, Tyler Blackburn and Cole Uzzell each had three assists.

Drake Deering earned his 10th win of the season after making 16 saves in goal.

FINDING THE TWINE

Davenport wasted little time picking up right where they left off the night before as Vantine scored his first since returning in the second semester just a few minutes into the game. Less than five minutes later Montmarquette would find the net for the second time in his rookie season, with Sandberg scoring back-to-back goals in the following two minutes to put DU up by four.

Connor Seymour scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season a little passed the halfway mark of the first period, and that was followed by Spencer Anderson finally scoring his first goal of the season with just under six minutes remaining in the opening frame.

In period two, Newton scored his fourth of the season just under five minutes in, with Vantine potting his second of the afternoon exactly a minute later. 20 seconds following Vantine's marker, captain Trevor Murray scored his 17th goal of the season to give Davenport a 9-0 lead. Kyle Mazur would score a couple of minutes later, and in the final minute of the frame, Montmarquette would score his second and Sandberg would complete the hat trick with his 14th of the season.

Zach Burkhart would score the lone goal in the third period to break the shutout, but DU would still skate away with the 12-1 win.

The Panthers end the regular season with an 18-11-3-1 record.

WHO'S NEXT?

DU will now prepare for the ACHA Central Regional Tournament As they finished in the top-eight in the region, they will get a first-round bye.

They will take on the fifth-seeded University of St. Thomas. The Tommies took down the Panthers when the two met back in October at the WCCHA Showcase, with St. Thomas winning by a final score of 5-2. This will only be the second meeting all-time between the Panthers and the Tommies. They will meet at the Griff's Georgetown over in Hudsonville on the 29th, puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
