Panthers take a pair from Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. - The Davenport baseball team ran its win streak to four games and improved to 4-1 overall with a pair of wins at Missouri S&T on Saturday.

Game 1
Davenport made it three straight lopsided wins with a 15-5 final against the Miners. Dalton O'Boyle got the ball for his second start and pitched five scoreless innings to run his current total to nine straight scoreless. O'Boyle improved to 2-0 and allowed three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. He now has 12 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched this season.

The Panthers jumped all over the Miners with three runs in the first and four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Jacob Buchberger had a RBI single to open the scoring and Travis Harvey followed with a RBI single in the first. Hunter Ruhstorfer drove in the third run of the first on a RBI groundout.

Buchberger also drove in the first run of the second as he was walked with the bases loaded. Harvey followed with a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 advantage. Noah Marcoux singled to left to score Nolan Bryant for the sixth run. The seventh run was a successful double steal as Marcoux took second and Buchberger scored.

DU added to their lead on a Carson Eby RBI single in the fourth for an 8-0 lead. Bryant had a RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-0. DU also scored three times in the sixth to open it way up. Marcoux had a RBI triple (his second three-bagger of the season) and then scored on a wild pitch. Nolan Anspaugh drove in the 12th run on a single to center.

Missouri S&T scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth as O'Boyle was replaced by Zach Haefer. The Miners scored three earned runs and Haefer recorded just one out in six batters faced. Michael Lincoln came in and weathered the storm in the sixth getting two outs. He also pitched a clean seventh inning and allowed one hit with no walks and four strikeouts in his appearance.

Marcoux made it four RBI in game one with a two-RBI double in the seventh and Gaetano Vallone drew a bases-loaded walk for the 15th run.

Game 2
The Panthers completed the sweep of the Miners with a 10-7 victory. The game was halted after eight innings due to darkness and it became an official win because it surpassed seven full innings. The Panthers again jumped out to a big lead at 6-0 through three innings. This time around the Miners clawed back and made things interesting with two runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth against the DU bullpen.

He allowed six runs (five earned), six hits and four walks. Jacob Buchberger belted his second home run of the season in the eighth inning.
