GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - As competition season ramps up for the traditional pompon community, DU pompon head coach
Erin Engeseth has been eager to announce her 2021 roster. This year the team has its largest roster size to date. Joining returners
Kaytlin Orban (junior and captain),
Catherine Fell (masters student), and
Sarah Root (sophomore) earlier this summer were
Chantal Borrome (freshman from Wyoming, Mich.),
Alyssa Brinks (sophomore from Holland, Mich.),
Nina Saladino (freshman from Caledonia, Mich.), and
Kristi Patton (freshman from Roseville, Mich.).
The team prepared for the start of the year with camp and routine learning and started fully practicing when the semester started. They then hosted their annual Fall open tryouts.
After open tryouts the pompon team added sophomores
Ashley Cutcher,
Avery Anderson and freshmen Dachia Gordon,
Ja'taya Cannon and Andrae'ya Wells bringing their team roster to 12.
"I am so confident about this group of pommers. Each member brings their own unique background and talent making this team a dream for us. We are welcoming all the new and exciting opportunities that this team brings to light and embracing a lot of what makes each of them special. With new team and individual goals this is by far our strongest roster ever and I am beyond ready to start training for High Kick, States and a possible national appearance."- Head Coach
Erin Engeseth.
Joining Engeseth on staff is returning Assistant Coach Megan Guarjardo. Guarjardo is a previous GVSU pompon member and coached St. Louis High School Pompon to a state championship in 2017. This will be her third year alongside Engeseth. She has also named
Kaytlin Orban as team captain.
"Megan is an essential part of my staff. She is a strong choreographer and pommer herself and she brings a pristine expectation to the program. We are building a legacy here at DU for this program and she lends so much expertise and insight to me when building it up. She sees my vision for this team and is very successful in bringing that vision to life through these amazing group of athletes."- Head Coach
Erin Engeseth.
