GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's soccer team will head to Ohio on Tuesday to face Ashland at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament. The seventh-seeded Panthers will match up with the second-seeded Eagles for the second time this season, the last being in DU's regular season finale at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex on April 18.
Davenport was able to build some momentum at the end of the regular season with a 1-0 win against Saginaw Valley State on Senior Day and that 0-0 draw with Ashland two days later. In the six all-time meetings between Davenport and Ashland, the scoreless draw was the first of those six that the Eagles didn't win having outscored the Panthers 13-3 in the previous five.
Davenport will be looking for the first GLIAC Tournament win in program history and draws a matchup with Ashland just like it did for the 2019 quarterfinal round. In that match, the Eagles scored the lone goal in the 25th minute while out-shooting the Panthers 17-6, including 8-3 in shots on goal. Fast forward to the two teams' most-recent meeting and Ashland still had 19 shots to Davenport's nine (12-3 SOG), but
Samantha Beckles was brilliant in goal with a career high 12 saves on 12 shots faced.
