Davenport Drops a Pair to Ranked Foes

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Facing two ranked opponents in the same day for the first time as a member of Division II, Davenport was matched up with No. 9 Oklahoma Baptist and No. 21 Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday at the Ferris State Invitational. The Panthers dropped the first two sets against the Bison before taking it to a fifth set, but fell in five while the Tritons won the second match of the day in straight sets.

Match Notes
- OBU's best offensive set of the match came in the first when the Bison hit .314 with 14 kills and only three errors on 35 total attacks.
- DU bounced back from an 0-2 match deficit nicely by hitting .310 (12-3-29) in the third and an even better .407 (14-3-27) in the fourth.
- The Panthers ended the third frame on a 9-1 run and led the fourth set by as many as eight, 22-14.
- Davenport had two match points in the fifth (14-12 and 15-14) before Oklahoma Baptist scored the set's final three points to win it.
- Herr turned in a stellar performance with 14 kills and just three errors on 23 swings for that .478 hitting percentage.
- Kreiger made it 14 matches in a row, dating back to the end of last season, with at least 10 kills in a single outing.
- Herr reached the five-block mark for the first time this season, something she did four times in the spring.

Match Notes
- Herr made it three matches in a row with 10 or more kills.
- Davenport had the upper hand in the dig department, 48-44.
- UMSL's best offensive set came in the second when it hit .333 thanks to nine kills and only two errors on 21 total attacks.
- Davenport led the first set by four late, 23-19, before UMSL ended it on a 7-1 run to go up 1-0.
- In the second stanza, the Panthers trailed by only two, 12-14, before the Tritons used an 11-2 spurt to win the set.
