DU Falls to LSSU in Tale of Two Halves, 74-67

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In a game rescheduled from Jan. 13, the Davenport University men's basketball team led Lake Superior State by three, 40-37, at halftime on Monday afternoon inside the DU Student Center. However, the Lakers outscored the Panthers by 10, 37-27, in the second half en route to 74-67 decision. Next up, Davenport will be at No. 17 Ferris State (16-3, 11-0 GLIAC) on Thursday with the opening tip set for 7:30 p.m. in Big Rapids.

Davenport falls to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in GLIAC play while Lake Superior State improves to 11-7 on the season and 6-6 in league games. The Lakers now lead the all-time series against the Panthers, 6-2, and improved to 2-1 in Grand Rapids.

Four different Panthers scored in double-figures including Jarrin Randall (15), Luke Maranka (14), Chris Rollins (11), and Jairus Stevens (10) while Maranka and Randall each had 10 in the first half. Jairus Stevens secured eight rebounds, Randall dished out three assists, Maranka blocked two shots, and Rollins tallied three steals.

Both teams shot an even 50 percent in the first half, but Davenport led by as many as 10, at 30-20 and 32-22. Once it was 32-22, Lake Superior State scored 15 of the next 23 points to trail by only three heading into the break. Following four ties and three lead changes out of the intermission, the Lakers took the advantage for good, 55-53, at the 8:22 mark. They would go on to lead by as many as seven, 74-67, right before the final buzzer sounded.

Lake Superior State dominated in both bench scoring and points in the paint to the tune of 31-10 and 34-24, respectively. The Lakers were paced by Malek Adams (16 points), Kemon Bassett (16) and Tyson Edmondson (13).
