GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The new era under head coach
Matt Krzykwa began with a bang as the Panthers won twice during opening weekend against MSOE at Patterson Ice Center.
The Panthers roared out to a 4-0 lead and won 7-4 in the opener on Sept. 30. Matic Nastran scored two of those first four goals while Lukas Lyszyk scored short-handed and
Luke Nickolaus scored on the power play.
Lyszyk got his second of the game at 12:05 of the third period after MSOE got to within 5-3. Nastran got his hat trick at 13:55 of the third for a 7-3 lead with assists from Nickolaus and
Will Healy.
Davenport registered 48 shots on net including 19 in the first period.
Drake Deering got the win making 29 saves between the pipes.
The Panthers posted a shuout the next day, 5-0, behind two goals in the first and second periods and another in the third period. DU ripped 68 shots on net compared to 27 for the Raiders.
Matthew Lyszyk scored 55 seconds into the game and got the tempo flowing.
Arian Starin also scored in the first period with an assist from
Nathan Hartline.
Jack Therrien scored his first goal as a Panther in the second period from Healy and Starin. Hartline got his first goal of the campaign later in the period with assists to
Spencer Sandberg and Brendan O'Dowd. Nickolaus wrapped up the scoring in the third period from Lyszyk.
Brenden Bogema earned the shutout in net making 27 saves.
