GLIAC – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the men's soccer postseason awards for fall 2022, as voted on by the league's coaches. Davenport had three student-athletes recognized as redshirt senior
Matt Whelan (Cork, Ireland) and redshirt junior
Eoin Broughan (Ashbourne, Ireland) were named First Team All-GLIAC, and sophomore
Micaiah Papa (Auckland, New Zealand) was selected as Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.
Whelan had another fantastic season for the Panthers finishing second in the conference with 14 goals and also adding two assists. He was also second in the league with 30 points and led the GLIAC with 63 total shots. Whelan scored three game-winning goals and had five matches in which he scored multiple goals. He was also named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season. Whelan earns his third First Team All-GLIAC award joining current assistant coach
Daire O'Riordan as the only Panthers to accomplish that feat in the GLIAC era.
Broughan is earning his second first team selection with the previous one coming in the 2019 season. He also was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC in 2021. Broughan has played in 16 matches and started in all 16 as the Panthers prepare to play in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals this afternoon against Parkside. He has three goals and four assists this season with his four assists ranking second in the league.
Papa is getting his first postseason award from the conference and over the last two seasons has been rock steady on defense playing and starting in 36 matches. This season, he had one assist coming in the season-opening win over Illinois-Springfield.
