NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, eighth-seeded Davenport (17-14) was at No. 20 and top-seeded Walsh (24-6) on Friday in the round of 64. However, the Panthers' improbable seven-game winning streak came to an end as the host Cavaliers led wire to wire and were up by as many as 31 before the final 26-point margin, 82-56.
The GLIAC Tournament Champions were paced by
Jairus Stevens (pictured) and his 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting along with six rebounds and a steal in just 19 minutes on the court. Also scoring in double-figures for Davenport was
Marcedus Leech Jr. with 12.
Luke Maranka also brought down six boards while
Chris Rollins dished out four assists to go with his two steals. Stevens and Rollins played the final game of their careers as did
Jarrin Randall (6 points) and
Samm Jones (3 rebounds).
Walsh turned in a balanced scoring effort as eight different players scored, six of which went for 10 or more including Tim Smith Jr. (16), Darryl Straughter (15), Caleb Canter (12), Luke Howes (12), Garrison Keeslar (10), and Milan Square (10). Keeslar also finished with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, each of which led the Cavaliers.
