HAMMOND, Ind. - Davenport men's basketball held their own in terms of shooting the ball on Thursday night at Purdue Northwest. In the end, it was just too many turnovers and missed opportunities which led to an 82-75 loss to the Pride in GLIAC action. The Panthers fall to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC, while the Pride are now 9-6, 2-3 GLIAC.
The Panthers shot 50.9 percent for the contest, the fourth time this season they have shot over 50 percent in a game. DU was also 7-of-18 from behind the arc and 14-of-20 at the free throw line. Purdue Northwest converted 45.5 percent from the floor including 9-of-25 from the arc and 13-of-19 from the foul line.
The Panthers turned it over a season-high 29 times and the Pride had a 36-18 advantage in points off turnovers. DU led 11-5 in the first half in the first four minutes. It was close throughout the first half as the Panthers led throughout. Their largest lead was six points at 37-31 with 2:33 remaining until the break.
Purdue Northwest took their first lead, 40-39, at the 19:41 mark of the second half on a layup by Alou Dillon. The lead exchanged hands a few times before the Pride took a 51-47 lead at the 13:18 mark. The Pride increased their lead to 57-47 with 11:07 to go, but
Jaden Terrell and
Jordan Sterling had back-to-back buckets to make it 62-60 with 6:04 left. That was as close as the Panthers would get however as Purdue Northwest surged ahead 74-63 with 1:28 left to seal the win.
Marcedus Leech Jr. tied a career-high with 26 points for his 10th career 20-point game and seventh this season. He went 9-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
Luke Bara added 10 points and hit double figures for the third time this season. Terrell and
Chaz Birchfield each added nine points.
Assane Diouf contributed seven points and seven boards in 13 minutes.
James Felton had a career-high four assists and grabbed five rebounds in 24 minutes.
