Preview: Panthers facing top national, regional opponents at home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University women's soccer will continue its home stand in two matches this week against No. 19 Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech.

Last week DU played in a single match against then No. 10 Grand Valley State University, losing the match 2-1 after a last-minute goal scored by the Lakers gave them the victory. Madison Fant was the lone scorer in the match with an assist by Haley Diekevers, putting Fant ahead of all goal scorers to lead the team with five total (T-second GLIAC). Diekevers sits right behind with four goals and a team-high three assists, as both Fant and Diekevers lead the team in points with 11 apiece.

Gabriana Bennecke walked away with four saves against GVSU to mark 34 total on the year as Bennecke is T-fourth in the GLIAC leaderboards.

NMU Matchup
Struggling to find a victory since the 2019 season, DU hosts No. 19 Division II and No. 3 Midwest Regional Northern Michigan for the second matchup this season. The last match against the Wildcats didn't go without disruption as a weather delay caused an over 40-minute break in action. NMU would ultimately be victorious, 3-0, more recently tying Michigan Tech 1-1 to mark their overall record at 7-1-3, 3-1-3 GLIAC.

GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week (week two) Molly Pistorius leads the team's 22 goals with eight total (No. 1 GLIAC), also marking a GLIAC and team-high 17 points. Hannah Kastamo (T-second GLIAC) and Stephanie Trujillo also continue to trouble opponents as they are second and third respectively for goals scored by a Wildcat with five and four total. Jillian Thompson sits right in the middle of the GLIAC leaderboards (No. 5) with a goals-against average of 0.64 with 19 saves tallied.

DU's program record against NMU stands at 2-4-2 as they look to level the season series this week.

Michigan Tech Matchup
No. 10 Midwest Regional Michigan Tech sits just above the Panthers for the historical record at 3-4-2, with the last faceoff resulting in a 1-1 draw in Houghton just a few weeks back.

Sitting at 4-2-5 this season, 3-1-3 GLIAC, the Huskies' recent bout against NMU (1-1 draw) has their conference standing at fourth overall. Seulgi Lee is the team's leading scorer with five goals (T-second GLIAC) as her solid play throughout the season garnered GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week three.

GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week (week four) Gracie VanLangevelde has started in 11 of the team's 12 matches this season with 34 saves, marking a .810 save percentage that ranks No. 4 in the GLIAC.
