Preview: Panthers in Allendale for crosstown matchup

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team prepares for their last regular season match of the season in a road matchup against Grand Valley State University.

Following 1-1 draws against both Purdue Northwest and Wisconsin-Parkside at home, the Panthers moved up to No. 5 in the GLIAC with a 2-5-6 conference record (5-5-6).

Haley Diekevers tallied her sixth goal of the year against PNW (T-third GLIAC) as Gabby Scholten scored her first of the season and second-ever in a Panther uniform in the Parkside match.

With the 2023 GLIAC Tournament starting next week the move up was crucial for DU in terms of facing an opponent that's not in the top three of the conference - although the final day of regular season action for all GLIAC teams will shake up the outcome of the tournament seedings.

GVSU Matchup
The Lakers fell out of the top 25 of the NCAA DII United Soccer Coaches Poll for the first time since September, snapping their six-week streak of being nationally ranked. Although GVSU remains No. 4 in the Midwest Region Poll after falling back one place with a current 9-2-6 record (7-1-5 GLIAC).

DU was less than four minutes away from tying the crosstown rival in early October for the first time in program history, however, a goal by the Lakers closed the match 2-1 and marked the historical record at 0-10 for the Panthers.

Ryann Fetty was recently named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week (Week 9) for the team's third conference honor of the season, as Emma Chudik has been a primary goal scorer for the Lakers with a team-leading five overall (T-sixth GLIAC). Isabel Imes has seen the most action in the nets with 12 appearances in 12 starts, marking 21 goals saved (.724 save percentage) and eight goals allowed (T-third GLIAC).
