ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport track and field teams made the short trip to Grand Valley State for the Holiday Open on Friday. It was their second indoor competition of the season and the final meet of the 2023 calendar year for the Panthers. The big takeaway from the meet was that
Julia Tuuri set two school records. She had a time of 7.77 in the 60 meters and 25.46 in the 200 meters.
In addition, there were five national qualifying marks in the meet.
Sidney Heugel in the pole vault finished fifth and hit the mark of 12' 1.5".
Noah Evers in the shot put had a throw of 59' 5.75" and
Bryce Monroe also in the shot put launched a throw of 58' 1.75". Monroe's throw was also a personal best.
Ethan Scholten competed in the 60 meters and placed second with a time of 6.79, which was .01 seconds off his personal best. DeMarcus Rouse would finish third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.04 for a new personal best.
Other great performances included
Solomon King in the 60 meters with a time of 6.81 and a time of 21.85 in the 200 meters to finish seventh.
Adam Jorgensen would place fifth in the triple jump (44' 8") and that would be a top-5 all-time performance at DU.
Soleil Moore ran two top-5 marks in the 200 and 400 meters. The freshman ran 25.76 in the 200 and 59.12 in the 400.
Kay-Lee McSwain also had a strong 60 meter hurdles finishing fifth with a time of 9.16. That time also was a top-5 performance at DU.
Nick Ruvalcaba finished second in the pole vault with a height of 15' 3".
Bryce Albrecht also finished third in the pole vault at 15' 3". Freshman
Alexander Hernandez placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 51' 7.75".
