Panthers compete at Illinois State and deliver top-notch performances

NORMAL, Ill. - The Davenport track and field teams sent a full squad to the Illinois State Joyce Morton-Kief Invitational over the weekend. The men's team placed fifth with 51 points, while the women's team was ninth with 25 points.

The women's team were led in the sprints by Arrionna Wallace, who turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.30. Teammate Jakya Mack-Smith followed closely behind in ninth (25.78), while Hannah Johnson added another top-five performance in the 400 meters, placing fourth in 59.61. In the 100 meters, Madalyn Daniels paced Davenport with a time of 12.86.

Davenport also found success in the relays, as the 4x100 team of Wallace, Mack-Smith, Jaiden Young, and Johnson placed second overall with a time of 47.56, marking one of the top finishes of the meet for the Panthers.

In the distance events, Cierra Guay led the way in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:05.18, while Alyssa Butterfield followed at 5:21.65. Over the hurdles, Tori Lator recorded a team-best 16.85 in the 100 hurdles.

In the field events, Davenport was highlighted by Bree Hardy's 15th-place finish in the long jump (4.65m). In the throwing events, Elizabeth Miller (11.97m) and Jayla Procter (11.92m) both recorded solid marks in the shot put, while Procter added a 31.87m throw in the discus. Bronte Hodson led the Panthers in the javelin with a mark of 34.19m.

The men's top moment came in the sprints, as the men's 4x100 relay team of Ethan Scholten, Malcolm Earvin, Nikao Williams, and Jaden Herrick raced to a first-place finish in 41.77. Davenport also saw success in the 400 meters, where Adam Jorgensen led the way with a fourth-place finish in 49.54, while Nikao Williams added a time of 52.13.

In the mid-distance events, Lucas Van Meter posted a strong double, placing fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:59.21 and adding a ninth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:58.17). Luke Oyster followed closely behind in both events, running 1:59.81 in the 800 and 3:59.96 in the 1,500, while Nik Shilling added a 4:10.19 performance in the 1,500.

The field events added valuable points for Davenport, highlighted by Nick Ruvalcaba's third-place finish in the pole vault (4.68m). In the long jump, Ethan Scholten placed fourth with a leap of 6.63m, while Andrew Otberg followed closely in fifth (6.49m). On the throws side, Chandler Griffiths recorded a mark of 15.09m in the shot put, while Tommy Johnson turned in a strong performance in the discus with a throw of 49.36m.
