Thursday matinee goes to the Panthers over Lawrence Tech 6-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's tennis team was back at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club on Thursday afternoon to square off with Lawrence Tech. Davenport improved to 4-2 overall this season while Lawrence Tech is now 1-5 after a 6-1 victory against the former WHAC opponent. DU is now 7-2 all-time against the Blue Devils and have won four straight matches against LTU.

The doubles portion point was secured by the Panthers who won two of the three matches. Joel Mast and Jan Stolin picked up a 6-2 win at one doubles against Nils Hammarsten and Eivind Tandberg. The three doubles went to the Blue Devils 7-5 as Subash Paramasivam and Daniil Khitrou dropped the match to Thierry Luthi and Rafael Mendes. The clinching match at two doubles saw Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla defeat Takuya King and Evan Morgan by a score of 6-2.

Paramasivam had one of two five-set wins by the Panthers at one singles. He dropped the first set 7-6 against Tandberg and rallied for a back-and-forth 7-6, 11-9 finish in a physically exhausting matchup. Henriquez was the other Panther to win in five at six singles. He defeated Mendes by scores of 2-6, 6-1, 11-9. Stolin had no troubles at two singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hammarsten. Mast at three singles was pushed a little more by prevailed 6-4, 6-4 against Morgan. Khitrou shook off the doubles loss to post a 6-1, 6-2 win at four singles over Diego Colombo who did not play doubles for LTU.
