Softball Completes Final Day at Blue Bridge Battle

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Davenport University softball team lost to Tevecca Nazarene and McKendree on Sunday in its final day at the Blue Bridge Battle at Deaconess Sports Park.

Game 1 vs. Trevecca Nazarene

L, 10-0
How it Happened:
The Trojans (5-7, 0-0 G-MAC) were able to jump out to an early 4-0 lead over the Panthers (3-7, 0-0 GLIAC) following the second inning.

After a scorless fourth inning and trailing 6-0, DU allowed four runs in the top of the fifth as TNU took a 10-0 advantage. Brooke Cowan and Becca Daoust each registered a hit in the bottom of the fifth, but the Panthers couldn't bring any runs home.

Elise Magnus (0-1) started in the circle for DU, striking out one batter in 2.1 innings pitched. Kelsey Byers pitched the back-half of the contest, facing 10 batters and striking out four of them.

Game 2 vs. McKendree
Result: L, 3-10
How it Happened:
The Panthers struck first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Bearcats (9-2, 0-0 GLVC) as Brooke Bernt singled to right-center field with the bases loaded to bring home Riley Hasseld. Mckendree responded with five unanswered runs, taking a four-run advantage. 

Hasseld helped get DU back on track in the top of the third inning, hitting a double and allowing Gabby Palazzolo to reach home. On the ensuing at-bat Hasseld scored her second run of the game on a throwing error made by the Bearcats.

Hasseld batted a perfect 3-for-3, including a double, while adding an RBI and two runs for the Panthers. Palazzolo batted 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Bernt added a hit and an RBI for Davenport. 

Emma Miller (1-3) pitched all six innings for the Panthers, registering five strikeouts in her time in the circle.

Up Next:
Looking ahead, Davenport will travel to Springfield, Mo. for a doubleheader with Dury on Tuesday, Feb 28, at 2 p.m.
