SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - In a battle between the DU Panthers, the Davenport University softball team dropped both of its games on Tuesday afternoon against Drury. It has been a busy schedule early on for Davenport (3-9, 0-0 GLIAC), playing eight games over the last five days, all of which have been on the road, with four more games still on the horizon over the next 48 hours.
Game 1Â
Result: L, 2-0
How it Happened:
In a defensive battle, Drury (7-9, 0-0 GLVC) got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Riley Hasseld responded in the top of the second inning, recording the first hit of the day for Davenport and advancing Aaliyah Walker to second base after being walked. However, Davenport was unable to capitalize, leaving both runners on base to close the inning.
Drury scored its final run in the fourth inning, registering three of its six hits in the inning.Â
With only one out in the top of the fifth inning, Walker got things started in a big way for Davenport, hitting a triple to right field. Gabby Palazzolo was walked on the ensuing at-bat, then stole second base moments later. However, Davenport did not bring any runs home, despite the strong start to the inning.
Davenports' defense remained stout, only allowing one hit over the final two innings.
Kelsey Byers (1-3) pitched the entire game for Davenport, totaling two strikeouts in six innings pitched while only recording two errors.Â

Result: L, 8-1
How it Happened:
Palazzolo started the game with a single to right field for Davenport. Hayley Kreiger helped Palazzolo get to third after hitting a single to center field. Stepping up to the plate with two outs in the inning, Kaycee Loehr brought Palazzolo home as she hit the ball to left field to give Davenport the early 1-0 lead.
Drury responded, scoring eight runs over the first two innings of play. However, the Davenport defense tightened up, only allowing five hits and no runs in the final four innings.Â
Elise Magnus pitched the final 4.2 innings for Davenport, allowing no runs and striking out four batters during her time in the circle.

The Panthers will continue their early season road stint, traveling to Liberty, Mo., for a doubleheader against William Jewell at 3 p.m. with the second game to follow.
