DU Comes Up Short in Doubleheader against Purdue Northwest

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport softball team dropped both games in its doubleheader against Purdue Northwest on Monday evening at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

Game 1
Result: L, 7-0
How it Happened:
It was a quiet start offensively for both squads as there were no runs and only one hit recorded through the first two innings of play.

The Pride (18-12, 2-2 GLIAC) did most of their damage in the third inning, bringing home four runs on six hits.

Brooke Cowan blasted one to center field for the Panthers (7-16, 2-2 GLIAC) to start the bottom of the fifth inning with a double, marking her second of the season.

MaKayla Thompson and Elise Magnus split time in the circle, combing for four strikeouts through seven innings.

Result:
L, 6-2
How it Happened:
Hayley Kreiger scored the first run of the day for Davenport in the bottom of the first inning as Lindsay Goodman singled to right field.

Elisse Omey was walked in the bottom of the fourth after being thrown four consecutive balls as she stepped into the box for the Panthers. The freshman was then able to score from second base as Gabby Palazzolo hit a single into left-center field.

Goodman and Palazzolo each finished the game with a pair of hits and an RBI for DU. Cowan and Riley Hasseld each chipped in with a hit for Davenport.

Kelsey Byers pitched 5.2 innings for DU registering two strikeouts, while Emma Miller closed out the final inning with one strikeout.

Up Next:
The Panthers will continue GLIAC play in a doubleheader against Ferris State on Sunday  at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow in Big Rapids, Mich.
