DU Swept by Bulldogs in Home Doubleheader

CALEDONIA, Mich. -  The Davenport softball team was swept by Ferris State in Saturday's doubleheader at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers (11-24, 5-9 GLIAC) swept the Bulldogs (18-27, 6-7 GLIAC) earlier this season in Big Rapids, Mich.

Game 1
Result: L, 4-2
How it Happened:
The Bulldogs scored one run in each of the first four innings to slowly gain a 4-0 advantage midway through the contest.

Brooke Cowan sparked the Panthers offense in the bottom of the fourth, as she hit a two-run home run to center field to bring the deficit down to two.

Defense remained prominent down the stretch, as no runs were scored in the final three innings, with only three hits registered.

Gabby Palazzolo and Kaycee Loehr each notched a hit in the loss for DU, while Emma Miller scored a run off the Cowan home run.

Kelsey Byers and MaKayla Thompson split time in the circle, tossing a combined three strikeouts and only allowing three earned runs.

Game 2
Result: L, 9-1 (5 Inn.)
How it Happened:
Davenport had its best offensive output in the bottom of the second, as Miller started it off with a single to left field.

On the ensuing at-bat,  Cowan blasted one towards the shortstop, reaching first base and advancing Miller to second. Loehr then hit one to the outfield, as the right fielder couldn't make the play on the ball, allowing Miller to round the bases and score the lone run of the game for the Panthers.

Miller led the way offensively, batting 2-for-3, while Riley Hasseld, Cowan, and Becca Daoust chipped in with one hit.

In the circle, Miller pitched the first three innings, tossing three strikeouts, while Elise Magnus pitched the final two innings, allowing only two hits and no runs.
