Panthers Swept in Road Battle with No. 7 GVSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport softball team dropped a pair of road games to crosstown rival No. 7 Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon at the GVSU Softball Field. The Panthers (11-26, 5-11 GLIAC) were shutout in both games, as the Lakers (33-3, 15-0 GLIAC) won 2-0 in game one, followed by a 10-0 (5 Inn.) victory in the back half of the doubleheader, extending their winning streak to 17.

Game one featured a solid defensive outing for both squads, as Kelsey Byers led the charge in the circle for DU. The senior tallied three strikeouts through six innings pitched, only allowing two runs on the afternoon.

Offensively, Gabby Palazzolo, Brooke Cowan, and Kaycee Loehr all registered a hit in game one against GVSU.

Game two featured an impressive performance from GVSU's freshman pitcher, Nevaeh Ingram, as she threw a no-hitter with four strikeouts. The Lakers did most of their damage in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs to take the 10-0 lead.

Three Panthers took the circle in the back half of the doubleheader; MaKayla Thompson, Emma Miller, and Elise Magnus. The trio combined for three strikeouts for DU.

Up next, Davenport will return home for a doubleheader against Wayne State on Wednesday with the first pitch slated for 3 p.m. with the second game to follow.
